Summer!

Ok, so turns out.. I’m HORRIBLE at blogging. I actually forgot this existed until I was editing my facebook info and it was listed as my site.

This semester has been one ball of stress. A normal day for me started at 5am when I would wake up to get ready to observe in an elementary school. Then I’d spend 3-4 hours there and go to my school, where I would sit through 5 hours of torture (class) and then have to come home and write a paper on my observation that morning. Oi.

But, it’s all over, thank goodness, and I came out with 4 A’s and 1 B – not bad at all. Now I have a week off, which I have spent at home with my parents, and next week starts Summer A. I have to take two classes during this 6 week period, and then I’m allowed to apply to the College of Education. Hopefully I’ll get in for fall so I can start with my real classes. From that point, 4-5 semesters and I’m ready for teaching. :)

First week of Classes

So, the first week isn’t exactly over yet.. more like the first day, but so far it’s been awesome! I’m in the process of changing my major, from music education to elementary education. In fact, I’m sitting in the lobby of the advising office in the college of education as I type this.

I’m taking five classes this semester, three of which are prerequisites to getting accepted into the college of education. If all goes according to plan I should be getting into the school in the fall. That keeps me on track to graduate in Spring of 2011 because the elementary ed program is a two year program, yay.

Unfortunately, my classes each come with a mandatory 15 hours of field observation, and my assigned schools (there are four) could be up to 45 minutes away. I have to go get a criminal background check and fingerprinted this weekend, which is so exciting!, and then I can start observing next Tuesday.

My other two classes are astronomy and classical mythology, which have nothing to do with education and everything to do with gen ed requirements. I have several friends in both classes, however, so it should be a good time.

The only bad part about this semester is that on MWF I have to get up at 7 to get to class on time… and on TR, even though my classes start at noon, I’ll have to get up at 5:30 or earlier to make it to my observation sessions on time. :-/

Goodness Gracious

Sooo ya, I am working over at Jersey Mike’s Subs, and I have been working the open-two shift; which is great and all but lately things have been pretty insane.

Yesterday I worked with my roommate Mike, and another co-worker who’s name is also Mike. My roommate and the other Mike have only been working at the store just shy of a full month. I myself have only been working there for a little over a month. So lets put it this way, there was three pretty new employees by themselves. I have only been using the slicer for about a week and a half now, and so I’m still not that good at it.

Anyways… The day stars off nicely…(Monday by the way of this week…so yesterday) Then a rush comes and it becomes hectic. It’s messy, there’s a lot of people coming in, and I’m going slow on the slicer because I don’t want to slice my fingers off or something stupid like that. Things are just awful.

Then today, Pretty much the same thing happens; It starts off nice, there’s no one until around 11:00 and then BOOM out of nowhere there is about 6 or 7 EMT’s that come in. Mike (roommate) is on the grill making the hot subs and I’m slicing the cold ones and topping them. Then after they’re all taken care of, Jose comes in ( the manager ) and he starts slicing and I begin to top the subs and work the register. After about 10 minutes of that there is a BIG rush and everything is horrible. Did I mention that we pretty much had no supplys? Ya, there was no more lettuces, turkey, chicken patties, grilled chicken breasts, white american cheese, and no wheat bread. Jose brought in some wheat, american cheese, and lettuce but we didn’t have any turkey and the chicken (which is my fault because I completely didn’t even notice we were out and therefore didn’t tell him to bring some with him from the other branch.)  So Jose calls one of his friends to come in and help us with the rush, and it eventually got better. :( I hope tomorrow isn’t so hell raising.

Apartment Rant

I know this sets off the blog with a negative attitude, but I really can’t help it. I’m sure everyone has a crappy first apartment, but this is not my complaint! The people who work this joint are completely and entirely incompetent.

I have no problems with the living condition; all of the appliances work, the carpet is nice and stain-free, and everything seems to be in working order..or is now. When I first moved in, my sink was a disaster, but Jason managed to fix it. :) The problems I have lie within the personnel in the front office.

I have never myself seen the manager of my apartment complex. All of the workers in the front office, including the “accountant” attend USF, and are therefore my age. Now, it might just be me.. but 20 years old does not seem like an age that would be able to run an apartment complex, and these kids are proof. They are never actually working, but are always sitting around gossiping. EVERY month, I go in to pay my rent, and I ask for a receipt. Of course, they don’t HAVE receipts, so they copy my check, and the worker on duty signs the copy. EVERY month, I get two or three notices laying on the ground of my porch, not taped to the door or anything, that say I did not pay my rent. EVERY month, I go in with the “receipt” that they gave me, and EVERY month, they say this is not enough proof and that I need a copy of my bank statement. When I return with all the items, they finally apologize for LOSING my rent check and change the status to paid, and assure me that it will not happen again.

This month, they decided that I did not pay my rent, or an overage bill that I did not receive, or a trash fine. I received the fine for leaving a bag of trash on my porch overnight because I had a sprained ankle and could not physically walk to the dumpster. Of course, no one in the office cares, even though I went in with a brace on and tried to explain my situation. Also, they refused to give me the bill they FORGOT to send out for our electricity overage, and demanded that I pay them, or they would not take my rent check. Of course, I did not pay them, because they would just send me a notice in a week saying I didn’t pay it, and that I didn’t pay my rent.

These people drive me insane. I can’t wait to get out of here!!
